You never know when disaster will strike, whether it come from a crashed hard drive, accidental deletion by a user, or a fire in your office. Make sure you take the proper steps to backup all of your sensitive data on a regular basis and store those backups off-site. This can be done by copying files to CD/DVD or external hard drive, or better yet, to the cloud with an automated backup service (one of my favorites is Backblaze.)

After signing up for the service and installing the client software, Backblaze will immediately start to backup your local files to its storage cloud, all automatically without any user intervention. (The automatic part is key – with this you will no longer discover at some point that you lost some critical files because you accidentally skipped a backup one week while you were rushing out of the office.)

Note: Remember, when planning your backup strategy, realize that certain files such as databases (Quickbooks, Peachtree, Microsoft Access, etc.) cannot be backed-up by simply copying the file, especially if they are in use. Make sure to follow the software vendor’s recommendations for backing up those files separately. If you want to play is safe, just contact Sapience and we’ll help you out.
